Description

On behalf of our client, a leading global manufacturer of electrical devices and provider of related services, operating in the Netherlands and strongly committed to sustainability and digital energy management transition, Artemys is looking for a Field Engineer – IT and Industrial Systems, who will be responsible for the installation, upgrading and maintenance of the company’s DCS and Safety Systems installed at client sites.

Responsibilities

As a Field Engineer – IT and Industrial Systems, you will be part of the division that provides maintenance, installation, and upgrade services to the clients who are users of computer equipment with your company’s installed Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and safety systems. Your clients will be some of the key players in petrochemical, pharmaceutical, and food and beverage sectors.

As a Field Engineer – IT and Industrial Systems, you will undergo a systematic and thorough training process, including courses at the learning academy, online courses, and on-the-job training with a senior colleague, before you are trained – slowly but surely – and prepared to work independently.

Key responsibilities:
• Undergo a systematic and thorough training process, followed by working on in-house projects, and first onsite visits together with a senior engineer
• Once ready to work independently, go on the field – instal, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair client equipment within the range of DCS / safety systems
• Understand customer operations, their needs and requirements; analyse and resolve customer technical issues
• Maintain hardware/software architecture for DCS/safety systems in industrial production and industrial network environments
• Configure new DCS software packages, together with real-time data archiving servers, and maintain them throughout the course of the project
• Collaborate with the sales team, project engineers, and other engineers of the Service Group
• Test circuits and equipment using various tools and machines (computers, software, workstations, circuit diagram, etc.); perform warranty and recall work
• Analyse software malfunctions and interpret maintenance manuals, using IT knowledge of systems and networks to isolate and correct issues
• Provide clients with technical details about the operation and maintenance of DCS equipment; advise clients on best practices, new services, and upgrading possibilities

In addition, your daily tasks will include:
• Developing solutions for more complex IT problems that arise during start-up
• Maintaining service equipment, tools, and documentation
• Documenting all required information for each site (prepare technical report)
• Providing daily and accurate time and expense for each client intervention
• Escalating to relevant technical experts when unable to solve a technical issue

Qualifications

• Relevant degree in an IT related field
• Some experience in the field is welcome
• Professional proficiency in Dutch; knowledge of English is considered a plus
• Ability to communicate effectively at various levels, both verbally and in writing
• Demonstrable hands-on experience with computer HW/SW engineering and network technology; interest in and/or experience with DCS/safety systems is a plus
• Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, etc.
• Ability to organise and carry out customer support visits to optimise their benefits while minimising intrusion into their work schedule
• Ability to accurately estimate the resources and schedule required to make customer successful
• Demonstrable interest in, or willingness to learn about serial protocols, networks, domains and servers
• Willingness to travel
• A valid B driver's license is a must
